Ready when you are. Connect to your WiFi, then start.

Up to 52 MiB of test data + overhead. Starting saves your result and network information, including your public IP. If you enter a flight, its details are saved with the result for review; approved flight results may be published. Your IP stays private. How we use this data

A short device-to-server measurement. Results depend on WiFi, shared bandwidth and network conditions.

THREE SMALL STEPS

A better picture of your connection.

01

Connect to WiFi

On a plane, finish the airline’s internet sign-in. Turn off mobile data and pause your VPN for the test.

02

Run the speed test

Keep this tab open. We transfer temporary data and measure your connection to our test endpoint.

03

See your results

Check your download, upload and latency. If you entered a flight, your result is automatically saved with it.

INFLIGHT WIFI QUESTIONS

Testing Starlink WiFi on a plane

How do I test Starlink WiFi on a plane?

Connect to the aircraft’s WiFi and complete the airline’s internet sign-in first. Turn off mobile data and disconnect your VPN for the test, then tap Start speed test. You can reconnect your VPN afterwards.

Should I test before takeoff or while airborne?

For a report about inflight performance, test while airborne when the airline permits device use. A test at the gate measures that moment only. Tell us in your notes if you tested on the ground.

Can this test prove my flight has Starlink?

No. We identify the public network exit where available. A Starlink exit is supporting evidence, but it does not prove you are aboard an aircraft. Flight reports are reviewed separately before being used as evidence.

Why do passengers on the same flight get different speeds?

Passengers share the aircraft connection. WiFi signal, seat location, device capability, other passengers’ activity and the test time can all affect results. One result is a snapshot, not a guaranteed speed.

What flight information should I submit?

Use the flight number and local departure date on your ticket. Enter these above the speed test. Your result is saved with these flight details when the test completes. No booking reference or boarding pass is needed.

What if the connection drops during the test?

Cancel and retry when the connection is stable. An interrupted test will not be presented as a complete result. If your public IP or network changes during the test, we ask you to restart.

Starlink speed test FAQ

How does the Starlink speed test work?

Your browser downloads and uploads temporary random data to StarlinkFly’s Cloudflare-hosted endpoints. We calculate throughput from transferred bytes and elapsed time, and measure small-request round-trip latency. No manual file download or installation is needed.

How much data does the test use?

A test transfers up to 52 MiB of measurement data, plus small protocol overhead. It normally takes around 20–40 seconds on a stable connection, and slow connections can take longer. You can cancel at any time. Do not run it on a limited data plan unless you accept this usage.

What do download, upload and latency mean?

Download measures how quickly your device receives data; upload measures how quickly it sends data. Both are shown in Mbps. Latency is the median elapsed time for small HTTPS requests in milliseconds; it includes HTTP and server processing and is not an ICMP ping.

Does this test measure the full capacity of my Starlink terminal?

No. It measures this device’s connection to our test endpoint, including local WiFi, the internet path and server overhead. This short, bounded test can underestimate very fast connections. It is not a measurement of the terminal’s maximum capacity.

Why is my Starlink connection not recognised?

VPNs, corporate gateways and other routing arrangements may hide the Starlink exit. Network metadata may also be unavailable. An unrecognised exit does not prove that Starlink is absent.

Can I use this at home or on another WiFi network?

Yes. You can test residential Starlink or another internet connection. Leave the flight number blank when testing outside an aircraft.

What information is saved?

Starting a test records the public source IP, network ASN and organisation, timestamps and test counters in a temporary session. Sessions expire after ten minutes and are removed after about a day when the service is used. Entering a flight number saves your results and flight details for private review when the test completes. Report IP addresses are removed after 90 days when the service is used. We do not display your IP publicly.

Is this the official Starlink speed test?

No. StarlinkFly is an independent website and is not affiliated with SpaceX, Starlink or any airline.
